Rome police mourn unexpected death of retired officer

Pamela Gibbons Richey was one of the Rome Police Department's first Black female officers when she joined the force in 1984. The officer, whose "smile would light up any room," passed recently unexpectedly.

Wildfire threatens homes and a vineyard in Floyd County

A wildfire consumed acres of land in Rome Wednesday night. The fire came within 100 yards of the Newby Farm & Vineyard. The owners feared the flames would advance toward their home, their barn, and their storage building with 8,000 gallons of wine.

School district plans Saturday school to overcome learning loss

Educators across the country said students have suffered during the pandemic. Many districts are trying to find ways to overcome the learning loss. Rome City Schools released their plans to help, and it looks like some students will be spending their Saturdays in a classroom.
