CDC: First U.S.-borne cases of malaria in years
In the last two and a half months, the CDC has confirmed eight cases of locally-transmitted malaria. Seven of those cases are in Florida, the eighth comes from Texas. Infected mosquitos spread malaria. While health officials report close to 300,000,000 cases worldwide each year, this is the first time in 20 years the U.S. has had cases in which people were infected here in the country.
