The Paytons' Newnan home was reduced to rubble when an EF-4 tornado struck nearly two weeks ago. Now members of the community are helping them get back on their feet.  

Officials are giving a better assessment of the damage left behind by a powerful EF-4 tornado that tore through Coweta County during the early morning hours of March 26. Cleanup efforts have been ongoing since the mile-wide tornado packing winds speeds of 170 mph cut through the county.

A retired police officer is grateful to be alive after she said her roof collapsed on top of her during last week’s severe weather in Bartow County. She recounted the terrifying moments as she tried to get out from under the debris.

Law enforcement officers are teaming up with trucking industry experts to help tornado victims in Coweta County. The organization "Convoy of Care" is collecting items to help men and women like Orlandis and Chloe Connally. Their home was one of many destroyed by the EF 4 tornado that ravaged Newnan last week.

The superintendent of Coweta County School System said the district will remain closed through April 9 as community cleanup efforts continue after last week's devastating EF-4 tornado.

People living in Newnan are still picking up the pieces, days after a tornado ripped through the area. 

Two Dawson County Sheriff's Office deputies are getting attention after performing a water rescue during last week's severe weather.

A survey released by the National Weather Service detailed the amount of destruction the EF-4 tornado wrought in less than one hour.

Utility companies say the devastation from tornadoes in Newnan is "like nothing we have encountered in our history."

FOX 5 Atlanta Storm Team meteorologists tracked the potential for severe weather in Georgia on Sunday as a band of thunderstorms rolled through the state.

After a Thursday storm tore through parts of northern and western Georgia, Coweta County School System is still waiting to bring students back to the classroom.

Gov. Brian Kemp spoke briefly with news outlets at Newnan High School after seeing the storm damage, mostly to assure locals that state agencies were going to see through the cleanup efforts in Newnan and across Coweta County.

There is destruction across Coweta County after a devastating EF-4 tornado tore through Newnan. Officials say one person died from a heart attack during the storm. Numerous homes, businesses and the high school have extensive damage.

Powerful storms moved through north Georgia on Thursday. The FOX 5 Storm Team has been tracking those storms all day. The storm forced schools in Polk, Heard, and Floyd counties as well as Rome City Schools to close and forced Gordon and Calhoun City School to delay starting their day by two hours.

There is an elevated risk for severe storms across the Deep South through Friday morning. The most favorable environment for severe storms will be west of the FOX 5 viewing area, but that same powerful storm system will also have an impact in north Georgia.
