Grady Memorial Hospital gives update on Midtown Atlanta shooting victims

Grady Memorial Hospital provided an update on the four victims of the Midtown Atlanta shooting at noon on Friday.

According to Dr. Robert D. Jansen, MD, Chief Medical Officer/Chief of Staff at Grady Memorial Hospital, two of the patients in the intensive care unit are still in critical condition but are doing well. The third person who was being cared for in ICU is moving to the surgical floor today and the fourth victim will be going home today. Dr. Jansen spoke again today about how the team who treated the gunshot victims were well-prepared and ready for the patients when they arrived. He also spoke about being in touch with the victims' families and how hard this is for the victims and their loved ones.

Northside Hospital has designated May 5 as a "Day of Reflection" after the shooting at one of their facilities on Wednesday in Midtown Atlanta.

The hospital is inviting their colleagues and the community to join them in remembering those who were killed and injured. They are also inviting everyone to express their thanks to those who responded in a time of crisis.

Amy St. Pierre, 38, was killed during the shooting on Wednesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The four surviving victims are Lisa Glynn, Georgette Whitlow, Jazzmin Daniel and Alesha Hollinger.

ATLANTA SHOOTING STORIES

Police say 24-year-old Deion Patterson shot five people, killing one. The other four victims are still in the hospital. Three of those victims are in very serious condition.

Patterson ran away from the scene, and it took police several hours to track him down. He was arrested by the Cobb County Police Department in their jurisdiction.

It is believed that Patterson had an appointment and suffered from mental health issues. Police officials said on Thursday that he is not cooperating with the investigation.

Dozens of law enforcement officers from multiple forces and other first responders responded immediately to the scene of the shooting on Wednesday. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum expressed his admiration during a recent press conference for all police officers and for the medical personnel who immediately began helping victims without knowing where the shooter was at the time.

STATEMENT FROM ATLANTA POLICE DEPARTMENT:

On behalf of Chief Darin Schierbaum and the Atlanta Police Department, we extend a huge thank you to all emergency responders, community members, and law enforcement partners who assisted us in keeping our citizens safe in Atlanta and the Midtown area and those who aided us in apprehending the suspect safely and bringing him back to Fulton County.

This was a major partnership across the board and we're very appreciative of the continued support from all who were involved.
We would be remiss if we did not extend our deepest condolences to the victims, their friends, families, and colleagues in yesterday's tragedy. Our prayers and support are with you.
