An average hurricane season produces 14 named storms and seven hurricanes. Out of the hurricanes, three usually strengthen into major storms with winds of at least 115 mph.

An updated Atlantic hurricane season outlook released Thursday now calls for 15 named storms, an increase from the initial outlook, and several of them could become hurricanes, experts say.

The upcoming Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be less active than recent years, with a forecast of a near-average season. 

Typhoon Warnings are in effect for Guam and Rota, and forecasters say damaging winds of 39 mph are expected Tuesday evening, with typhoon-force winds of 74 mph or higher expected by Wednesday morning.

The Colorado State University tropical weather outlook calls for 13 named storms, six of which could become hurricanes with at least 74 mph winds. Phil Klotzbach, the lead author of the forecast, said that two of the hurricanes could be major.

According to NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information, Ian was responsible for $112.9 billion in damage, making it the costliest hurricane in Florida’s history and the third-costliest in U.S. history, behind only Katrina ($190 billion) and Harvey ($151.3 billion).

There will be no more hurricanes named Fiona and Ian, according to officials with the World Meteorological Organization, after last year's hurricane season that wreaked havoc on various communities in the Caribbean, the U.S., and Canada.

Louisiana and Florida residents have already felt it.

An extensive risk of property damage from future tropical storms and hurricanes is predicted along the Southeast and Gulf coasts.
