MARTA is giving away free steering wheel locks | Here's who can get one and when

Owners of Kia and Hyundai vehicles, which are vulnerable to being stolen, will get a chance to add a little protection thanks the MARTA Police Department.

Officers will be distributing steering wheel locks from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 2.

Owners who own a Kia or Hyundai with a model year between 2011 and 2022 can pick those up at the East Point MARTA station.

Proof of vehicle ownership and a valid Breeze card are required.

FOX 5 has been reporting on the increase in Kia and Hyundai vehicles being stolen.

The driving force behind targeting those makes is social media, particularly posts on the Chinese app TikTok, which instructs people how to exploit the security systems in Kia and Hyundai vehicles.
