Police: woman found murdered with 'trauma to the head'

ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Police said a woman was found dead in a parking lot with trauma to her head, and are investigating her death as a homicide.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 31-year-old Shannon Welch. Neighbors said the woman was known in the community as "Britney."

Police said shortly before 9 a.m., the woman was found in the parking lot of the stretch of businesses at 2075 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. Police did not say her manner of death, and are looking to the medical examiner's office to learn more about how she died.

Business owners said a neighbor found her body.

"He saw her laying there and thought maybe she was asleep. And he tried to shake her and just wake her up," said Angy Moss, a stylist at Hair Effects.

Investigators are looking to find a motive for the crime and her killer.
