Georgia’s First Lady, Sandra Deal, paid a visit to a Red Cross shelter in Augusta Sunday morning.

Georgia alone has taken in 4,500 people displaced by Hurricane Matthew.

“The evacuees at this location were in high spirits despite their relocation due to Hurricane Matthew” said Deal.

More than 2,700 Red Cross disaster workers have been supporting relief efforts.

“I also met several emergency responders and volunteers during my visit and I am very thankful for all of their hard work.”

North Carolina is facing record-breaking flooding, and in South Caroline over 4,500 people are seeking shelter in evacuation locations.
