A section of Buford Highway remains shut down in Chamblee after a water main break earlier this week.

City officials told FOX 5 a six-inch water main ruptured Monday night and washed out the road near the intersection of Beverly Hills Drive.

Officials said the normally busy highway is closed in both directions at Beverly Hills Drive and Shallowford Terrace due to some road erosion. Crews are working around the clock to stabilize it and make emergency repairs.

Officials are advising motorists to use Shallowford Road as an alternate.

While the break does involve a water line, there will be no interruption to water service.

Repairs are expected to wrap up Wednesday evening.
