Imagine leaving the funeral of a loved one to find your parked car broken into and your belongings stolen.

As mourners were gathered inside the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church Monday, police say thieves were busy in the parking lot, breaking into vehicles.

In all, five vehicles were burglarized.

"It is heartbreaking, it is heartbreaking," Lawante Johnson, who lives near the church, said.

She said she can't believe the brazen break-ins that targeted people in pain.

"People in there laying their loved ones to rest, and you have a thieves out here breaking into their cars," she said. They need to be caught."

Investigators with the Butts County Sheriff's Office released photos of a person of interest and a suspected getaway vehicle. No suspects have been named.

The photos were captured at a nearby business and do not show the person of interest at the church. If you have any information about the case, you are urged to contact Investigator Montgomery with the Butts County Sheriff's Office at 770-775-8216.
