Stranger Warning at Bartow County Grocery Store

A Bartow County woman said she had just put her groceries in her car when a strange man jumped in her backseat.

The woman said she made a quick stop at the Ingles on Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville Saturday night around 10 p.m. She said when the man got in he told her to drive.

The woman told FOX 5 News that she offered to give him her wallet, even the keys to her car, but he didn't want either, he just kept telling her to drive. The woman said she worked security for several years and knew she would be putting herself in danger if she followed the man's orders to drive to another location. She said she started screaming and reached for her phone, and “he must have thought I was reaching for a gun, because he jumped out, held up his hands and told me not to shoot him.”

The woman drove off as fast as she could and called 911. She wasn't hurt, but sheriff's investigators said this is a warning to everyone to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Investigators pulled surveillance photos of the man while he was in the grocery store. They said once they figure out who he is, he may be charged with trespassing or possibly stalking.

The woman describes him as about 5 foot, 9 inches tall and weighing around 155 to 160 pounds. He is described as being between 50 and 60 years old.
