A shooting outside a church that serves the homeless in downtown Birmingham left one person injured.

A statement by pastor Matt Lacey of the Church of the Reconciler says an argument broke out Wednesday between two men who were eating breakfast at the church, which is part of the United Methodist denomination.

The men went outside and at least two shots were fired, injuring a man. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest that isn't considered life-threatening.

Birmingham police Lt. Sean Edwards says all the gunfire happened outside the building. He says the victim isn't cooperating with investigators.

Lacey says he hopes the shooting doesn't discourage volunteers who support the church.
