Senate committee discusses universal police pursuit policy

Protecting the public and police officers during high-speed pursuits has become a top priority for state lawmakers.

A five-member panel is working with members of the law enforcement community in an effort to change the rules regarding police chases.

State Senator Gail Davenport said she was inspired to do something about it after hearing about people being injured while getting caught in the middle of high-speed pursuits.

Friday's meeting was the first of several.

The senate committee will soon decide whether to implement a set of basic rules all members of law enforcement should follow.
