A single father of three needs a kidney transplant - and he hopes that by reaching out to the public, he can find a match.

Ryan Stanford of Roseville has suffered from polycystic kidney disease since he was a child.

He knew the time would eventually come where he would need a lifesaving kidney donation. for this single father of three - that time is now.

"It is inherited, my dad had it," he said. "It eventually shuts down the kidneys from cysts growing on them - which is happening to me.

"(My family is) pretty much all that matters, I have them and I still have to raise them. They are not out of school yet. I'd like to be around to continue to get them on their path."

With his health beginning to fail, it was his girlfriend's daughter Lillian Jarjour, who came up with the unique idea to search for a kidney donation.

"I was trying to think of something we could do because unfortunately time is running out," Lillian said. "This guy has done so much for me and my family, I wanted to do something for him."

A viewer alerted FOX 2 after they saw Lillian's sign she made on the back window of her car. It reads "Single dad of three needs kidney - type o blood" and his phone number.

The mild-mannered man says the calls and texts started coming in.

"Any chance I can get, I guess," he said. "I don't like asking for help but if I get help, it is worth it."

Especially for his three teenage kids, who need their dad now more than ever.

"Sorry I don't want to cry," said daughter Ivy Stanford. "I kind of lost my mom a couple of years ago. He stepped up all of sudden he had three kids in his custody and stuff. He helps a lot. I just don't want to lose him."

Ryan will begin dialysis very soon. He is currently on the waiting list in Michigan and Ohio, which is up to five years.

In the meantime, the Stanford family hopes people will see this and consider getting tested to be a match - for Ryan or even someone else.

"I would appreciate it," Ryan said. "My kids definitely would appreciate it. But even then, there are other people who have problems out there."

There is a GoFundMe page set up for the family, you can make a donation here.
