Police: Thieves strike garages, valuables in DeKalb County subdivision

Families in one DeKalb County neighborhood are increasing security measures after crooks struck their garages twice this week.

DeKalb County Police say the incidents happened two days apart in the Eagles Ridge Subdivision.

Dean Slater told Fox 5 someone ransacked his truck in his driveway around 3 a.m. Wednesday. He said the person or group used the garage door remote in his truck to open his garage, before speeding off with the remote and his wife's iPad.

"It's definitely scary just to know they were that close," Slater said. "It makes us a little nervous. I now find that I am double and triple locking my truck. I'm also double checking the garage...to make sure my family is good and taken care of."

Rod Kelley said someone stole a lawnmower and leaf blower from his garage Monday afternoon. He believes the crooks used a tool to lift the door.

"I feel like someone is taking advantage of ours and mine. And I have young children. I think the guys who do this kind of thing where you work to steal from other people you need to get job," Slater said.

Neighbors told police they believe the thief in at least one of the incidents got away in a silver Cadillac.

Officers told FOX 5 they are working to determine if the cases are connected.
