Police release video after man was attacked in Old Fourth Ward
ATLANTA - Police have released video of three men they believe violently attacked a group of men, leaving one in what detectives call grave condition. It is a story which has been widely circulated on social media since it happened this weekend, but police said the urgency to get the men off the streets has increased calling it a “senseless act of violence.”
“He was just here visiting, just trying to have a good time with friend and these individuals just came out of nowhere and attacked them,” said Major Adam Lee III, who heads the Atlanta Police Department’s Major Crime Division.

Major Adams said Mark Calub, who was with his two friends, was outside the Space2 venue in the Old Fourth Ward around 3 a.m. They were calling for a ride when police said they were attacked by a group of men. Investigators said the attack sent Calub to the hospital in critical condition.
“They had been there just visiting and they were attacked on the sidewalk by these individuals,” said Major Lee.
Investigators are puzzled over the motive to the attack. The men still had all their belongings and do not believe any previous confrontation happened between the individuals.
“We don't believe it was robbery or anything it was just for the heck of it,” said Major Lee.
Major Lee said cameras near Howell Street and Edgewood Avenue captured three of the men. Police pointed out they believe one of the men was wearing a jersey with the number 34 on the back and a baseball cap turned backwards. Investigators believe they left the area in a dark-colored Nissan Armada.
The major said they have not seen any similar type of crime recently. Investigators said they are still trying to gather more video from the area in hopes of a better picture of the men. They are also interested in anyone who may have caught the incident on social media.
“Right now Mr. Calub is fighting for his life we believe that he is in very, very critical condition at this point and so his family has flown in from California to be by his side,” said Major Lee. “We want to make sure we do all that we can to find these individuals and bring them to justice."
