Police: Man shot and killed by robbers

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County police are searching for three robbers who investigators said shot and killed a 26-year-old man in a possible attempt to steal his car.

The family of Reginald Poole drove all the way from Macon to Atlanta to speak to FOX 5 News about the incident. They said they hoping someone from the public can come forward to identify his killers.

"Our lives will never be the same. Our world came crashing down," said mother Geraldine Poole. "I would not want any mother to go through what I'm going through right now.”

Police said March 11, Poole had arrived home to the Haverly Apartments off Summit Creek when the suspects' van pulled up near his car and waited for him. After a confrontation, police said Poole tried to flee and was shot in the back. Investigators released surveillance video of a darker gray van police identified as the getaway vehicle.

Police said Poole's cell phone was missing.

Authorities identify the three suspects as men in their 20s, but do not have more detailed descriptions.

Mrs. Poole hopes those who know who the suspects are can provide tips to police.

Family members describe Poole as an ambitious young man who had obtained his computer science degree from Fort Valley State University; he had hopes of finding a job in his field by moving to metro Atlanta.

Poole’s relatives said he was a "God-fearing" man who was active in his hometown's church, was very close to his family and siblings, and loved taking care of the young children in his family.

"Do the right thing. Do the right thing. Be honest," Mrs. Poole said, in a tearful message to the public.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call DeKalb County Police Department or Atlanta Crime Stoppers. Anyone who calls Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous could be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
