Police have charged an 18-year-old suspect with his younger brother's murder.

Officers found the 17-year-old victim dead from at least one gunshot wound Wednesday night around 8:30 at Ridge Stone Townhomes on Holcombe Road in DeKalb County.

Police took 18-year-old Dashonn Hayes into custody and charged him with the murder of his younger brother, 17-year-old Cory Hayes. The boy’s younger sister was also at home.

"We believe right now, there was some sort of dispute between the older brother, the 18-year-old and the 17-year-old. What transpired between that is what we are trying to work out right now," DeKalb County Police spokesperson Sheira Campbell said.

The family, however, tells a different story.

Great Aunt Sheila Foster told FOX 5' Aungelique Proctor the brothers were laughing and talking just prior to the shooting.

"This was an accident, this was not intentional," Foster insisted.

Anyone with information is asked to call the DeKalb County Police Department.
