Officers Rehearse Urban Shooting Tactics

Atlanta asked reporters to come to its shooting range to show citizens how they prepare in the event of a terror assault here.

Twenty-four officers from various divisions took part in the drill using the AR-15 rifle. The city's program is still relatively new compared to some other departments in the metro area.

Major Darin Scheirbaum said the idea is to have enough cops trained so the rifles can be distributed throughout the zones, giving the APD flexibility.

He said the department cannot be in a position where it must wait on a specialized unit to come to respond.
