A 70-year-old Newnan man arrested in what was thought to be a case of animal cruelty will not face charges.

Officers say Jon Schuck tied up his dog outside a coffee shop on the town square last month and left it outside in the heat while he was inside drinking coffee.

Authorities received several calls from concerned citizens.

An animal control officer was reportedly on the way when a passerby alerted police that the dog had died.

A necropsy performed by Auburn University showed the dog died of natural causes related to lymphoma and sepsis, but there were no signs of neglect.
