Man robs pizza place, gets away on bicycle

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - Police are investigating an odd robbery at a pizza shop in Cherokee County and to top it off, the thief got away on a bicycle.

Investigators said it happened at the Peace Peace Love and Pizza on Georgia Highway 92 in Cherokee County. Investigators said a man walked into the restaurant, but he did not want a slice, he wanted cash and detectives said he had a gun.

Surveillance video showed was in the store wearing a black ski mask, black gloves and a hooded sweatshirt as he approached the counter. At one point detectives said he showed a silver handgun tucked in his waistband. The video showed an employee open the cash register and the man in the ski mask reach in and grab handfuls of money.

Witnesses told investigators the robber ran out of the store, hopped on a bicycle and took off. Investigators believe he had stashed the bike across the street in the same area where they found a gun, but the gun was not what it appeared to be.

“It was a toy gun, a plastic gun painted silver. No one knew that at the time. It wasn't until they recovered it they discovered it was plastic," said Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses described the bike as a yellow or light colored BMX bike. It had thick wheels allowing the guy to ride on the road or go off-road to make his escape. Investigators said the man was in his 20's, wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the word "Everlast" on the front.

Anyone with information that can help detectives figure out who he is, should call the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
