On Sunday morning, officers from the Gainesville Police Department encountered a male inside the police department.

The suspect, Samuel Espejel-Sanchez, 32, was bleeding heavily from the injuries he sustained while breaking into the department. Officers heard glass shattering and loud noises coming from a secured area not open to the public.

Espejel-Sanchez had climbed over a fence into a secure area of the police department. He then broke two doors and two windows before gaining access to the police department. The subject was not in the right state of mind, he appeared to be hallucinating. He advised that people were after him.

Police immediately took him into custody. He has been charged with Interference with Government Property, False Report of a Crime, Burglary 2nd Degree and Dunk on Streets. He did hundreds of dollars in damage to the police department.

This is the second time in just as many weeks that officers have encountered deranged individuals who have been under the influence, possibly of synthetic substances. In an earlier situation, two officers were injured while attempting to take an intoxicated subject into custody. It took nearly six officers to take this subject safely into custody.
