Authorities say a man ran over a woman while backing up in a driveway in Gainesville, leaving the woman dead.

The driver, identified as Paul Bruce Osborne, 57, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and first degree vehicular homicide.

On October 5, Osbourne told a Georgia State trooper he had backed some 40 feet into a driveway in the 3500 block of Osbourne Road. The driver said he noticed a woman lying on the ground, unconscious, once he exited the vehicle. Officials say the driver tried to revive the woman, identified as Rachel Hull, 53, before calling 911. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

The cause of death was described as a “serious crush” to the abdomen area. The investigation is ongoing pending the autopsy report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations' Crime Lab.
