Madison County kindergartners honor veterans in Mannequin Challenge

Kindergarten students at a Madison County elementary school participated in a unique tribute last week to thank the men and woman who have served our country.

Last Friday, on Veterans Day, Rebekah Whitlow, a Hull-Sanford Elementary School kindergarten teacher, and her paraprofessional, Susan Jones, organized for their students to honor veterans by partaking in the latest viral sensation, the Mannequin Challenge.

The school shared an adorable video on Facebook of the students frozen in action while showing signs of patriotism.

In the video, students are holding American flags and "Happy Veterans Day" posters, learning about veterans, pointing to "thank you" signs, saluting and placing hands over their hearts.

"Ms. Whitlow wanted to think of a unique approach to hooking students' interest about the holiday," Principal Donna Bulla told FOX 5's Katie Muse. "The Mannequin challenge was something that most of the students had seen before, so they thought it would be fun to incorporate the standard of learning about national holidays with the mannequin challenge."

The response on Facebook has been extremely positive with many people commending the school for the sweet tribute.

"This is awesome," Angie Kimsey said. "Great job class."

"A big thank you from this old veteran," said Leonard Williams.
