Air Force SSgt. Haley Briggs, a Purple Heart recipient, suffers from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, seizures, and nightmares due to the injuries she received during her second tour in Afghanistan. Since her return, she has had faithful companion, Nova, by her side. Nova alerts Briggs to any episodes and is there to give instant comfort when it is needed the most.

But Nova hasn’t been able to help out much lately. He developed a twist in his stomach that led to bloat and was taken to the University of Georgia veterinary hospital for surgery.

Briggs, who is being medically retired due to her injuries, just wants her Nova back. Her family has set up an online fund to help offset the cost of the surgery.
