Police are investigating a murder after a grisly discovery inside a southwest Atlanta home.

Police say the 33-year-old victim was shot several times, and they believe the murder may have happened several days ago.

On Saturday, police say a housesitter found the body at a home on the 1500 block of Alder Lane.

"There's someone who is looking over the house because the neighbor is not able to be here for a few days. So he sent somebody by to check on the residence, and that person found the male that was inside the house," APD Major Michael O'Connor said.

Police have not released the victim's name, but friends on the scene say he went by the nickname "Meat."

"He did have a good heart. He is going to be missed. I know that, as you can see, he is loved," said Jasmine Davis, who said the victim was the father of her youngest child.

Witnesses say the scene was tense late Saturday and more friends and family showed up out of concern.

"He was a good father to his kids – like he supports all of his friends," friend of the victim Shay Miller told FOX 5. "He was a really good person and this is going to hurt a lot of people in this city."

Atlanta police say that they have a lot of people to talk to in the investigation.
