Gwinnett Shelter to reopen Saturday after dog death

The shelter imposed a quarantine April 10 after one dog died of "common kennel cough agents" and several others became sick.

Animal control officers will only bring dogs and cats in to the facility through one door. All animals will be vaccinated as soon as they arrive.

Previously, shelter workers had only vaccinated animals that were being adopted.Any animals that appear to be sick will be taken to a "sick bay" to isolate them from the rest of the population.

"We want our citizens to know that we are treating them with the best care that we possibly can and that's why we did a lot of these new procedures," Pihera added.
