GOP field for Tennessee governor soon to become more crowded

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - More than two weeks after the dust settled on this year's Tennessee General Assembly session, the field seeking to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Bill Haslam still hasn't grown - but that's likely to change soon.

Several potential candidates for Tennessee governor had said they would wait to make up their minds until the legislature concluded its business for the year.

Republican Sen. Mark Green says he will decide by Monday about re-booting his campaign after putting it on ice while seeking confirmation as President Donald Trump's nominee for Army secretary. The Ashland City Republican withdrew from consideration for that post earlier this month.

State House Speaker Beth Harwell and Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris also say they are close to making up their minds about bids for the GOP nomination.
