Georgia confirms record-setting voter turnout this year

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia's top elections official says more than 76 percent of registered voters in the state cast ballots in November's contests.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced the final results on Tuesday. His office had previously predicted that turnout on Nov. 8 would break a state record for votes cast in an election.

Kemp says more than 4.1 million people voted early or on Election Day this year. Georgia has more than 5.4 million registered voters.

The record previously was more than 3.9 million votes during the 2008 fall elections.
