Former senator helping Sessions in confirmation process

PHOENIX (AP) - President-elect Donald Trump's choice for U.S. attorney general is getting some help from a former Senate colleague in making it through the confirmation process.

Ex-Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona sat behind Sen. Jeff Sessions during the Judiciary Committee's two-day hearing and the Alabama Republican said at one point he was honored that Kyl was assisting him.

The Arizona Republic (https://goo.gl/gjIoZl ) reports that Kyl told the newspaper that his role included taking notes, following up with people needing information and helping with witness preparation.

Kyl served three terms in the Senate, leaving office after not seeking re-election in 2012. He was a member of the Judiciary Committee) while in the Senate.
