Under the new law, all public school districts must now advise parents and students of the constitutional right via their student handbook.

The existing law states that students can opt out of reciting the pledge by bringing a note from their parents.

The new law was pushed by the Central Florida Freethought Community on behalf of atheists and non-believers.

A separate atheist group called American Atheists warned that they will be monitoring each of the state’s 67 school districts to make sure they comply.
