Atlanta police said they have cited both drivers involved in a violent crash at the intersection of North Avenue and Boulevard that injured three people waiting for a bus.

Police said they could not determine the cause of the crash, so they cited both drivers for failure to obey a traffic control device.

"We heard an unusually loud crash and a bang, like it was multiple cars. I was really surprised to see it was just two. We're used to fender benders at this intersection but this was extra bad," said Atlanta resident Aaron Alexander.

Alexander was at his home on Boulevard when the cars collided just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Three people sitting at the MARTA bus stop bench next to a Pizza Hut were struck. The magnitude of the crash left both cars mangled on the side of the road. They came to a rest just a few feet from the exterior wall of the restaurant. Despite the severity of the wreckage, Atlanta Police said the victims suffered only minor injuries.

Alexander, who has lived in the area just a few months, told FOX 5 Portia Bruner he hopes people will slow down at this busy intersection, one he described as a dangerous trouble spot.

"Cars just kind of zoom all through here, like a free for all. And since there are no turn lights, you just have drivers piling up to make the turn on even after a red light. I would just say slow down. Two minutes at a red light won't kill you, but zipping through one can," Alexander said.

Medics have taken one of the victims to Grady Memorial Hospital and the other two to Atlanta Medical Center.
