Correctional Officers Assaulted at U.S. Penitentiary Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. - Two Bureau of Prisons Correctional Officers were injured after being assaulted by two inmates at Federal Penitentiary Saturday morning.

Two inmates at the U.S. Penitentiary assaulted two Correctional Officers inside a Pretrial/Holdover until shortly after 6:00 a.m. The inmates were sprayed with OC pepper spray, but continued to assault the officers.  When responding staff arrived, the inmates were restrained and the area was quickly secured.

Two other staff members received minor injuries responding to the assault.  The prison was placed on limited operational status, and the FBI was notified. 

At no time was the public in danger.
