Attorneys former DeKalb County CEO ask for conviction to be overturned
ATLANTA - A lawyer for the former CEO of DeKalb County is asking the Georgia Supreme Court to overturn Burrell Ellis' criminal convictions for attempted extortion and perjury.
Prosecutors claim Ellis strong-armed county vendors to make campaign contributions.
His attorney told the justices that the prosecution cherry-picked evidence. He claims Ellis had positive interactions with hundreds of businesses.
The court said it will rule on the Ellis case soon.
