Atlanta woman celebrates 103rd birthday at The Varsity

An Atlanta-area woman celebrated a major milestone with a stop at her favorite spot, The Varsity.

Lena Fortner, or "Granny" as everyone who knows her calls her, was born in Atlanta on Nov. 17, 1915. Now 103 years old today, she still celebrated with her favorite treat Saturday morning.

According to Fortner's great-granddaughter Christy Martin, "Granny" married young in the backseat of a car and lived in Gwinnett County with her husband. He built a church in the county which is still attended by her family to this day.

Martin says Fortner loves working hard in her yard, growing vegetables and cooking from scratch. She also still sings and plays the pianos.

And Fortner has also raised four children, multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.

"We're a very, very close family – wrapped in love by Granny's prayers, examples and heart!" Martin said.

From all of us here at FOX 5 Atlanta, happy birthday Lena!
