3 rescued after boats collide in Alabama waters

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (AP) - Three people have been rescued in the water 12 miles (19.3 kilometers) south of Dauphin Island, Alabama.

The Coast Guard and Alabama Department of Marine Resources said Friday watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report shortly before 7:30 a.m. of a collision between a catamaran with four people aboard and a pleasure craft with three people. The pleasure craft subsequently capsized and its three passengers were thrown into the water.

The Alabama marine resources boat crew recovered the three survivors and transported them to emergency medical services at Billy Goat Hole.

The Coast Guard boat crew escorted those in the catamaran to Dauphin Island Marina.
