Overblown birthday parties

ATLANTA, Ga. - What happened to the simple days of cake and ice cream to celebrate a child's birthday? Research shows many parents are shelling out nearly $800 a year for parties and a good bit of that money is for gifts and goodie bags for the friends attending. 

Gift bags for guests have become a popular trend at kiddie birthday parties. 

Research shows the grand total for 21 years of birthday parties is about $30,000.
