First timers at the Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. - It doesn't matter how many times you have watched the Masters on television.

4K, 8K, 12K, it's irrelevant how many K's you have, because you can't truly appreciate the beauty of these hallowed grounds at the Augusta National Golf Club until you walk them with your own feet and see them with your own eyes.

Attending the Masters for the first time is almost as awe inspiring as seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time.  You've seen pictures, you've seen video, and you think you know what to expect, but until you've stood at the south rim overlooking one of the wonders of the world...you can't really appreciate it's beauty and expanse.  And until you've walked the course at this wonder of the golfing world, you can't really appreciate the vivid colors and undulations.

"TV doesn't do it justice!" is a common theme among first time Masters patrons.  "I can't believe how hilly it is!" is another. 

But it's more than just the elevation changes, the dogwoods, the Georgia pines, the azaleas, and the perfectly manicured fairways and greens.  It's a rare combination of beauty, ambiance, and history.

If you are an annual Masters patron, or if you have had the chance to attend many times, you are one of the fortunate ones.  I count myself among you as I have had the privilege to cover the Masters Tournament for Fox 5 Atlanta for 15 years.  My one word of advice for you is to never, ever take this place for granted.

Meanwhile, if you are a first timer at the Masters, I have one word of advice for you as well...wear comfortable shoes.
