Burgers with Buck: Casey's

Casey's in Winder is not a fancy burger boutique.  In fact Suzy Humble, who owns the restaurant along with her husband Chris, describes it this way, "It's really a small town, local dive."  It's a classic hole-in-the-wall.  A local mom-and-pop.  The kind of place that people love to discover and then boast about to their friends.  And it only takes one visit to Casey's to become friends with Chris and Suzy, who obviously love their customers and love what they do.

With apologies to Cheers, Casey's is truly a place where everybody knows your name, and if they don't, they will before you leave.  In fact, it's not uncommon for some of their regular customers to give Chris and Suzy a call just to let them know if they won't be in at their usual time.

Casey's is one block off the historic Winder Square, and the space has a unique history of its own.  For the last 8 1/2 years Casey's has been serving up burgers, hot dogs, chicken salad, cheesesteaks, chicken tenders, nachos, and desserts from this location, but according to Chris, the building has housed one restaurant or another continuously since 1926.

Casey's is a wonderful combination of small town charm, affordable prices, and good food.  As the name implies, the Hell's 1/2 Pounder burger brings the heat.  The two large patties are topped with both white and yellow American cheese, with Casey's homemade habanero sauce, and a fresh smoked jalapeno, all served on a Kaiser bun.

"It's not just made to burn you.  It's made to taste good", says Chris, "but there is some heat in there".

If you're intrigued by what you've seen and read and want to give Casey's a try...there's one more thing you need to know.  They are only open three hours a day, five days a week.  Their hours are 11:00-2:00, Monday through Friday.
