University of Alabama System trustees approve tuition hikes
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Leaders of Alabama's public university system have approved tuition increases at the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The system's board of trustees voted during a meeting Friday to approve tuition hikes at the University of Alabama of $300 per year for in-state students and $1000 per year for out-of-state students. The rates are based on a 15 credit hour load per semester.
The board also voted to raise tuition at UAB by $340 per year for in-state students and $888 per year for out-of-state students.
Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Dana Keith says the increases are meant to support costs for compensation, benefits, student scholarships and other campus priorities. The tuition hikes are expected to go into effect during the 2016-17 school year.
