Thousands of runners in Savannah for Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Thousands of runners are hitting the streets of Savannah this weekend for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon.

Organizers say more than 17,000 runners signed up for the full and half-marathons Saturday. It's the sixth year Savannah has hosted the race, which features live bands playing along the course. The band Old Crow Medicine Show was scheduled to headline a concert after the race in Forsyth Park.

Savannah-Chatham County police were closing streets and diverting traffic along the 26-mile marathon course as well as the 13-mile route for the half-marathon. The course takes runners from Savannah's downtown historic district to residential neighborhoods that rarely see much tourist traffic.

For runners who can't get enough, there's more planned for Sunday afternoon with a 5K and a 1-mile race.
