SWAT situation shut down Kennesaw neighborhood

A SWAT situation shut down a neighborhood for several hours Thursday night. Michael Bearden was charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and obstruction in connection to the situation, according to police.

It happened along Jiles Road near Lone Oak Trail. Kennesaw police said they received a 911 call just after 7:15 p.m. The caller said an argument had broken out at a party and someone may have fired a gun.

Officers arrived at the home, but men ran inside and barricaded himself inside the house.

SWAT team negotiators spent the evening trying to establish contact with the man.

Police said they could not confirm if the man was armed.

Officers blocked off a half-mile perimeter around the home, closing Jiles Road from Legacy Park to Lone Oak Trail.

Police urged residents to avoid the areas and those who were in the neighborhood, to remain indoors.

A few dozen police officers from both the Cobb County and Kennesaw police departments were spotted at the scene.

The man was taken into custody around 11:40 p.m. without incident.

There were no reports of injuries.
