Residents want gas stations to beef up security

Residents in south Fulton County want gas station owners to increase security.

Daphne Jordan said one too many crimes have happened at the Chevron off of Roosevelt Highway in College Park.

“It’s like they welcome criminals here,” Jordan said.

Two murders have happened on site. A man was shot and killed while pumping gas back in October and an officer was gunned down in the parking lot in 2003.

“That’s unacceptable to me,” Jordan told FOX 5. “There are at least one or two crimes committed here each month. This is considered a high crime gas station.”

Jordan wants the owners to increase security by installing more cameras and having armed guards on site.

“The criminals feel welcome here so where they feel welcome is where they will frequent until the owners put up security measures to tell them you won't them at your establishment,” Jordan said.

Jordan and other residents have planned a boycott for Saturday at 10 a.m. outside of the Chevron.

“A community is united to let this business owner and other businesses and other gas stations know that we are not standing for this any longer,” Jordan said.
