How much snow in Atlanta?: Preliminary snowfall totals from North Georgia

The winter storm system that has been moving across a large portion of the United States finally made its way to North Georgia on Friday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning went into effect at 5 a.m., and reports of sleet and snowflakes soon followed, starting west of the city.

By 6 a.m., numerous residents around metro Atlanta and North Georgia were sending photos and videos of snow and ice to FOX 5 Atlanta.

By 7 a.m., snow was falling heavily in Midtown Atlanta, and by 8 a.m., streets were covered in Buckhead.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Deidra Dukes with FOX 5 Atlanta reported that a wintry mix had turned to steady snowfall in Cherokee County.

At 9:30 a.m., many Atlanta residents were spotted in Piedmont Park with their sleds or makeshift sleds.

By 10 a.m., snow was piling up along Interstate 20 in Douglas County, and Truist Park shared a photo of snow on its ball field.

As of 1:30 p.m., it appears that the snow has mostly stopped, but that doesn't signal an end to the precipitation for metro Atlanta and North Georgia today.
