Clayton County police spoke publicly for the first time about the death of 6-month-old Nnakai Pratt, whose body was found earlier this week in the woods behind his family’s apartment complex. Both of the child’s parents are now facing charges in connection with his death.

The police did not reveal much new information related to the case during their press conference and answered several questions by saying they couldn't answer a question because it was an open investigation.

They did reveal that inconsistent statements and evidence on the baby's father's phone led them to believe that he was involved with his child's death. They also revealed that the child was killed by blunt force trauma to the head and was found in a trash bag.

At the same time that the police were holding their press conference, the parents appeared before a judge in Clayton County. Both parents were denied bond on the major charges (both did receive bond for the misdemeanor charges).

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 10 for Pearce and Nov. 12 for Pratt.

Nnakai's twin, a girl, is currently in the care of the state.

Clayton County police talk about baby's death

The Clayton County Police Department held a press conference late Friday morning to talk about the death of 6-month-old Nnakai Pratt and the arrests of his parents in connection to his death. His father has been charged with murder and his mother has been charged with obstruction.

What we know:

Antonio Pearce, the baby’s father, has been charged with malice murder, concealing a death, tampering with evidence, and several other counts. Investigators say Pearce initially told officers that armed robbers had kidnapped the infant, but police quickly determined his story was not credible. Nnakai’s body was discovered days later during an extensive search.

The baby’s mother, Necolette Pratt, faces charges of making false statements, obstruction, and being a party to a crime.
