Police: Man steals cop car and bus in getaway attempt

A California man is in custody after police say he took off with not just one vehicle, but two!

Sacramento police responded to a two-car collision on Friday.

While they were at the scene, one of the drivers jumped out of his car and stole a police cruiser.

But he didn't stop there.

Police say the man used the patrol car to pull over a college shuttle, directed the bus driver out of the vehicle, and then stole the bus.

That's when passengers took matters into their own hands and subdued the suspect.

"When he stopped, one of the guys grabbed him and choked him ... and when he choked him we just started hitting him," passenger Marsha Fernando said. "I took the keys and turned it off and threw the car in park."

Passer-bys helped too by keeping the door to the bus closed when the suspect tried to escape.

The unidentified suspect is now in custody with charges pending. No one was injured.
