Neighbors in the Edgewood area of Atlanta said they are fed up with hearing constant gunfire coming from a local apartment complex practically daily, especially after hearing a semi-automatic fired over the weekend.

"I heard a bunch of gunshots. At least 40 or 50... Pow-pow-pow-pow... over and over again," one neighbor said of the ordeal Sunday.

Police responded to 911 calls at the Edgewood Court Apartments Sunday after neighbors heard the gunfire. But one neighbor beside the complex said she's heard the gunfire almost every day this week.

"It's been earlier: 7 p.m., 9 p.m., when we're out running errands," said a neighbor who doesn't want to be identified. She said she often calls 911 when she hears gunfire coming from the complex.

"Even if the fighting is self-contained, the bullets have to go somewhere," she said.

Concerned neighbors met to discuss the problem Thursday.

Atlanta Police released a statement about neighbor concerns:

"Although this is a public safety issue, there are some steps needed from Edgewood Court Apartments since it is private property. We just aren't able to occupy their property 24 hours a day," said Major Timothy Peek, Commander of Zone 6.

Management for Edgewood Court sent FOX 5 News a letter detailing the measures taken in the past year to boost security, including hiring a security consultant, installing cameras, and kicking out non-residents loitering. It also said Atlanta Police statistics show crime incidents in the complex down 50 percent from 2014.
