Massive apartment fire blocks Piedmont Avenue

ATLANTA - A big apartment fire destroys an apartment building in Atlanta.

The fire on Piedmont Avenue sent smoke billowing so high it could see it over the skyline.

FOX 5 viewer Jill Rosenthal sent a video of the heavy flames and smoke.

The roof collapsed forcing firefighters to back off.

The weather made the fire challenging to fight.

One firefighter slipped on ice that formed from the water they were using to put out the flames.

But they were able to get everyone out of building safely.
