Man Shoots Two Family Members, Calls 911

Deputies arrested a man who shot two of his own family members and then called 911 to report the crime.

Authorities with the Newton County Sheriff's Office responded to the man's home on Helm Drive in Covington around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.  They found two adults--a man and a woman--dead.  The man turned himself in to deputies at the scene.

"They are family members," said Newton County Deputy Felicia Jefferson.  "That's all we're releasing at this time.  They are related.  This was a domestic homicide--double homicide."

While investigators would not identify the suspect nor his victims, neighbors said the father who lived at the house was taken away in the back of a patrol car.

"It's really tough--really, really tough," said a neighbor who lives across the street.  "I mean, every time I open my door--my front door--I'm pretty much looking at his front door."

Deputies said no one else was at the home at the time of the shooting and they are not looking for any other suspects.

The Newton County Coroner must still determine the victims' exact cause of death.
