Iowa House passes bill to let children of all ages use handguns
Iowa's Republican-led House has passed a bill to let children of all ages handle handguns, with parental supervision.
The "Youth Safety & Parental Rights Act" was one of five pro-Second Amendment bills that passed through the House on Tuesday.
It would allow a child of any age to shoot a pistol or revolver with their parent or guardian. Current law allows children 14 and older to do so.
Republican Rep. Jake Highfill said the bill "is one of the best bills we've done to advance Second Amendment rights of Iowans."
"It returns the power back to where it fully belongs," he said. "Back in the hands of parents to make those decisions they are entitled to do instead of the government."
